Ok, I told you all that I was trying to come up with some kind of bench dining idea for my formal dining room.
I can only use the monies that I made from selling my formal dining room table and chairs. So, the creativity challenge is on!
I am trying to implement a few things:
*A place where this room will be used for more than a formal dining.
*A place where enough seating is provided for my large immediate family for gatherings etc.
*Highlight the prettiest feature in the room. The fireplace!
~But I had to do all of this with a very small dining room.
I am not there yet but I thought I would share with you the progress…….
This is the view when you walk in the front door and look to the left.
This was the previous view.
Oh. Wait….that was the “putting my cart before the horse” view.
Here is the previous, previous view.
A lot of table. We couldn’t get around it. It was blocking the view of the fireplace and we NEVER used it because of all of the previous.
Can you believe how much more fits in here?
This was a bench I found on CL and with a little bit of paint it transformed into my “bench dining” that I was looking for. Eventually, I will add a cushion for the seat….but I don’t mind waiting to find the right deal.
It feels good sitting down at the table. We all fit comfortably and my brother and wife and kids have all tested it out and loved it…..so far.
This is the view from where I sit.
I envisioned cheese and wine……with a romantic and warm atmosphere with family and friends.
Our first meal?
Chili hot dogs on paper plates…….
My life is so much cooler in my head.
So….here is where the room sits right now.
~ The antique drop leaf table (antique store score), has to be slid back and forth to allow anyone into the bench.
~ If the bench is in the center facing the fireplace, it blocks the fireplace and swallows the room.
~ I do not want to put a rug back down because I feel like the wood floor is so pretty that it adds warmth on its own.
~ The color of the room still bugs me, but I am too lazy to paint it.
What I’m going for?
Think European dining. Warm and cozy but hotdogs on paper plates instead of wine and cheese.
So, are you up for the challenge?
Want to share some links to some pics that might give me some inspiration?
Like the difference so far?
I can’t wait to hear what you have to say!
